I'm on my blackberry so this is just a quick update.. Tokyo was absolutely amazing!!! I slept a total of 3 hours in the 54 hours I was there (so I apologize if this blog doesn't make any sense)! The city is so dense & new age. Everything is bigger too-buildings, billboards, massive tvs on buildings, music being blasted in the streets. The city is packed with people.. I learned that tokyo is the largest city in the world with 35 million people! We explored the popular Shibuya district the first night and also ventured to Roppongi. We happened upon a cool underground bar that was playing the top american songs and were literally the only foreigners there! We ended up making friends with people (who didn't know any english) and danced the night away! Around 3am we went to the club where all of the semester at sea crowd was and danced there before going back to the hotel to change before going to the Tsukiji Fish market at 5:30am. This was seriously one of the coolest experiences! It is best to go this early b/c it's when the fish are being unloaded and auctioned then purchased from stands. There were carts everywhere flying around the narrow alleys and butchers chopping fish up. The very first thing we saw when we arrived was a guy pulling fish out of a bucket and stabbing them in the gills... Blood flew everywhere. It was seriously like the splash zone at sea world. Gross!! Margaret jumped on the back of one of the carts that sped by and went into the restricted area where the actual auctioning took place. It was hysterical but she did disappear for a few minutes before popping out again. After fully experiencing the market we had a leisurely morning tea and white rice (couldn't handle sushi after seeing the market). All of this before 8am! Haha. The rest of the day we explored tokyo by foot. We had an amazing dumpling lunch at a hole-in-the-wall place in hirajuku- we sat at the bar surrounding the 'kitchen'. We walked all day long and got to see so much! That night we did karaoke!! It was unbelievable- such a blast! We even closed the place down at 4am! We'll see what kyoto has in store. Hopefully I can get a bit of rest tonight!
